NOTE ** There was a massive fire at the National Personnel Records Center in 1973 For Army personnel, it destroyed approx 80% of the OMPFs dating from 11/01/1912 to 01/01/1960. For Air Force personnel, it destroyed approx 75% of the OMPFs from 09/27/1947 to 01/01/1964, alphabetically from James E. Hubbard onward. The loss was 16-18 Million records.

Following the terrorist attack on 09/11/01 the Army's world wide locator was shut down. It is no longer possible to get any help in locating someone in service. If yours is a case of getting child support explain that as there is a special system in place to help.

The form you need to request military records is a Standard Form 180. To request one, for the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, the phone is: 314-538-4141. To send the completed form For the Navy: Active and reserve officers and enlisted personnel the address is: Bureau of Naval Personnel, Pers-313D, 2 Navy Annex, Washington, DC 20370-3130

For discharged, deceased and retired Navy: National Personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Blvd., St. Louis, Mo 63132-5100.

Navy officers separated before Jan. 1, 1903, and enlisted members separated before January 1, 1886: Textual Reference Branch (NNR1) National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, DC 20408.
