Criminal Background Checks

For a really thorough background check on someone you will probably have to hire someone. Remember BUYER BEWARE. You can look through the following links and try to do some of this yourself.




To search a District Court for information on criminal records you will need the persons name, Social security number, and date of birth. For most states you can mail in inquiries to the Criminal Division of the County Courthouse. The record should show if a person was ever arrested and prosecuted. If they were not prosecuted there will be no record. The records show the dispostion of the case. You can find out if the person pleaded guilty or innocent, whether or not they were found guilty by a judge or a jury. If found guilty it will also show what the punishment was, ie. sent to prison, put on probation etc..
Some states have a statewide information repository that shows every judicial case. The information should be available from any judicial district.




If you want to check a record from the federal court you must inquire at the US District Court. There is a nominal fee for these services.

Remember to call directory assistance and ask for the number before hiring someone for this.
